I know this conversation has been dead for a month but I have just read the Sprint press release today January 18th 2011 regarding the new $10 Premium Data charge for existing data customers. I had a few questions and concerns about this.
1) Does this apply to Sero Premium customers who have since upgraded to Sero Premium after Oct. 1 2010 or not?
2) The press release states that “Existing Sprint smartphone customers are not affected unless they upgrade to or activate another smartphone.” Does that mean if I am using a phone I cannot switch to another smartphone if it breaks without paying $10 a month for Premium data plan? Or does it mean when activating a new line of service not just a phone?

A little concerned and confused and I (as would many sprint users) would appreciate your clarification on this matter.

Thanx and all the best,

Eli

When you upgrade at the upgrade pricing, Sprint is eating $hundreds in cost in terms of what we pay HTC or Samsung or whoever. It generally works out because we make that money back over the life of the contract, but we can’t afford to offer the upgrade pricing again until the end of your contract.

I’m on the legacy sero 500 but upgraded to a HTC touch pro 2 in 07/2010 since the 2 years was up.

failed to be informed on the 10/01/10 sero premium and 4G phone upgrade capability and jumped on a 2 year renewel.

Will I be able to extend my contract or something to get a 4G phone at the upgrade pricing? (of course change to premium plan + 4G data).

Thank you in advance.

As I’ve said several times, I really don’t have any visibility into any changes to legacy plans. Sorry.

My centro is looking older and older each day. I’m paying (and have been paying almost 2x what the $30 SERO folks have been, and you let them go to SERO Premium…how about a F&C Premium plan?

Sprint customer since 1999.

I’ve again confirmed, customers can switch from SERO Premium back to SERO Basic in the first 30 days or after the first 30 days.

Since the device still hasn’t been announced by Sprint, I don’t have any insights into whether it will be eligible for SERO basic (or if it even exists :)

Tom – sorry, I don’t think there’s a way to switch you back. Kinda late to be responding to a Black Friday question, but retailers like Best Buy make their own pricing decisions with their own business reasons for doing so (e.g. as a loss leader to bring customers into the store). We can’t afford to match them all. Sorry.

2 questions pertaining to sero premium:

1) you mentioned a few times that we can switch back to sero basic after switching to sero premium. but a lot of the latest forum chatter seems to contradict that (once we switch to sero premium, apparently we can’t switch back to sero basic after 30 days). is that the case now?

2) previously you mentioned that you can’t comment on wp7 devices because they weren’t announced for sprint yet. but it looks like sprint has confirmed that you are taking pre-orders from microsoft employees as of dec 8 for the htc wp7 phone. would you be able to comment at this time whether wp7 phones will be eligible for sero basic? if not, will they be eligible for sero premium?

thanks in advance, and thanks again for the great blog posts and answering questions.

Is there anyway of getting back on it or a SERO Plan? I just renewed 2 phones for 2 years & got a $130. credit. Now i want to get a Samsung Tranformer, Sprint want match Best Buys’ Black Friday price. Can you help on either issue? If so please advise.

Thanks,
Tom
